Hosted by: Cluj Cultural Centre
July 8 - August 3, 2022 Tue-Sat | 4:00 - 8:00 PM EET
Tranzit House, George Barițiu st. 16 Cluj-Napoca, Romania
After its iterations in Gdańsk, at the Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art, and in Brussels, at Bozar - Centre for Fine Arts, Colliding Epistemes: Art & Science Exhibition, curated by Maja & Reuben Fowkes, travels to Cluj, where it is hosted by Cluj Cultural Centre from July 7 until August 3, 2022.
Legacy of the city’s bid for the European Capital of Culture 2021, Cluj Cultural Centre implements an interdisciplinary programme to address strategic challenges of the society. It activates as a non-governmental organization for culture and sustainable development, and its core belief is that culture makes cities present and human.
In the frame of STUDIOTOPIA, the Centre has hosted two residencies: one between the art and science trio consisting of Ciprian Mureșan, Sanneke Stigter and Sven Dupré, and one between artist Alexandra Pirici and scientist Paco Calvo. Additionally, Cluj Cultural Centre has organized educational activities in connection with two of its programmes: Academy of Change and Learning Qub.
In the weeks to come, Colliding Epistemes will stop by at Tranzit House, a space that was founded in 1997 in the former “Poalei Tzedek” synagogue in Cluj, and that now has become home to various manifestations of contemporary art. Over the last 20 years, the Tranzit foundation managed to fill the space of the synagogue periodically with performances, exhibitions and conferences, giving space for diverse social, ethnic and professional groups.
The local community is therefore invited to explore a dynamic, fluid world whose foundation lies on the shifting sands of artistic and scientific concern, and to discover works resulting from the 13 collaborations developed within creative residencies and born from scientific observation, experimental practices, sensorial exchanges and the imagining of alternative scenarios and trajectories.
