Hack Darwin Lab Design your biotech future
Hosted by: Gluon
July 5 - July 9, 2021 10:00 to 17:00 GMT 2 Brussels, Belgium
Design your biotech future
The world around us seems increasingly ‘programmable’, not only digitally but also biologically. This summer, the Hack Darwin Lab invites the Swedish artist duo NonHuman Nonsense who will challenge you to look differently at our present and future. After a workshop on ‘genetic editing’ we will ponder about the dangers and challenges of modern biotechnology and come up with the craziest projects. Using simple tools, you will sketch up a utopian (or dystopian) image of the future. The resulting dream or doom scenarios can take the form of a virtual experience, 3D-printed prototype, storytelling performance, magazine, or anything else your mind can bring to life! In developing your speculative project, ICT experts and students will help you make use of 3D printers, laser cutters, Virtual Reality equipment and more. The results will later be exhibited in Brussels and at festivals. So come join us from 5 to 9 July and let your mind be expanded to the endless possibilities of our future.
This activity is a collaboration with the Open BioLab and the Open MediaLab of Erasmushogeschool Brussel. It is made possible thanks to the Studiotopia initiative. We invite the duo Roland van Dierendonck and Guenter Seyfried, for the workshop ‘genetic editing’, and Studiotopia artist Kuang-Yi Ku (Tiger Penis Project) for a workshop on ‘speculative thinking’.
Target audience ASO / TSO / BSO / KSO 14—18 years
